Why Use a Broker in Alberta
Alberta has one of the most active automotive retail markets in the country. Calgary and Edmonton each carry dozens of new-car franchises, plus a long tail of independent and pre-owned dealers along the Calgary–Edmonton corridor. That's good for selection — and rough on the buyer who has to phone twelve dealerships to find the right trim at a fair price.
A car broker takes the dealer-by-dealer search off your plate. You tell us what you want; we work the phones, compare quotes, and bring back a single Deal Summary with the best offer. You don't sit across the desk from a sales manager, and you don't drive across the city chasing inventory that turns out to be the wrong trim.
How Alberta Tax Works on a Vehicle Purchase
Alberta is one of the few provinces with no PST. On a new or used vehicle, you pay only the 5% federal GST through the dealer. That compares to 13% HST in Ontario and roughly 15% combined tax in most Atlantic provinces — which is part of why Alberta plates regularly show up on cars sold elsewhere in the country.
Beyond GST, you'll pay a registration fee and an AMVIC consumer protection fee at Alberta Registries, plus standard documentation fees at the dealer. We surface every one of these in the Deal Summary so there are no day-of-pickup surprises.
Dealer Coverage Across Alberta
We negotiate with AMVIC-licensed dealers in every major Alberta market:
- Calgary & area — Macleod Trail, Crowchild, Deerfoot Meadows, Airdrie, Okotoks
- Edmonton & area — Whitemud, Anthony Henday dealer rows, Sherwood Park, St. Albert, Leduc
- Central Alberta — Red Deer, Olds, Innisfail
- Southern Alberta — Lethbridge, Medicine Hat
- Northern Alberta — Grande Prairie, Fort McMurray
If the right trim isn't sitting on a lot in Alberta, we'll source it from another province. Cross-province purchases are routine for popular configurations; we coordinate the dealer-to-dealer transfer and your home-province registration.
AMVIC Licensing in Plain English
AMVIC requires Alberta dealers to disclose all-in pricing in advertising, document any vehicle damage or accident history, and handle consumer complaints through a regulated process. We only work with AMVIC-licensed businesses, which means everything you sign is governed by the same provincial framework.
Buying Out-of-Province from Alberta
Because Alberta plates carry no PST, Albertans sometimes find better net pricing on cars sourced from BC, Saskatchewan, or Ontario. (Note: we currently can't take BC clients, but we can still source from BC dealers.) The math is straightforward — if the vehicle price plus shipping plus your time savings beats the local quote, out-of-province makes sense. We run that math for you and present both options in the Deal Summary.
What It Costs
CarBrokerCanada offers two service options:
- "I already know the car I want" — $500 flat. You tell us the exact make, model, trim, and colour. We find it and negotiate the deal.
- "I need help deciding first" — $500 today + $500 when your vehicle is ready for pickup. We help you pick the right vehicle, then handle everything else.
