Why Use a Broker in NWT
NWT's automotive retail is concentrated in Yellowknife — a small franchised dealer presence and a long tail of pre-owned and independent options. Selection on common trims is workable; depth on specific configurations almost always means looking south. Buyers outside Yellowknife (Hay River, Fort Smith, Inuvik) face an additional transport leg on top of the southern source.
A car broker handles the whole sequence. We work the Yellowknife dealers, source from Alberta (most often Edmonton) when the right trim isn't local, and coordinate transport up Highway 1/3 to land the vehicle ready for your registration through NWT Motor Vehicles.
How NWT Tax Works on a Vehicle Purchase
NWT has no territorial sales tax — only the 5% federal GST. You register and license through NWT Department of Infrastructure (Motor Vehicles); we coordinate the timing so registration is ready when the vehicle arrives.
Dealer Coverage and Transport
We work with Yellowknife dealers first, then look south when needed:
- Yellowknife — the territory's main dealer hub
- Alberta sourcing — Edmonton dealers most often, with transport up Highway 1/3 to Yellowknife
- Outlying communities — Hay River, Fort Smith, Inuvik; vehicle typically lands in Yellowknife and continues by ground transport, or by barge / fly-in for the far north
Transport, Folded In
Long-haul transport is part of buying a vehicle in NWT. We get a transport quote up front and fold it into the Deal Summary so the all-in cost — vehicle plus shipping — is clear before you sign.
What It Costs
CarBrokerCanada offers two service options:
- "I already know the car I want" — $500 flat. You tell us the exact make, model, trim, and colour. We find it and negotiate the deal.
- "I need help deciding first" — $500 today + $500 when your vehicle is ready for pickup. We help you pick the right vehicle, then handle everything else.
